Rad Runner Roach

Introduction:-
The Turkestan cockroach, Periplaneta lateralis (also known by its synonyms Shelfordella lateralis and Blatta lateralis), also known as the rusty red cockroach, red runner cockroach or simply rusty red, red runner,[5] or lat, is a primarily outdoor-dwelling cockroach native to an area from northern Africa to Central Asia. Adults measure around 3 cm (1.2 in) in length. Adult males are a brownish orange or red, are slender, and have long, yellowish wings which allow it to attract females and to glide.Adult females are dark brown to black, with cream-colored markings on the shield and a cream-colored stripe edging its wings; they are broader than males, and have short vestigial wings.Nymphs are brown in front, black on the rear, and are wingless.

Why are they used as feeder insects?

• High protein:- Red runner roaches are nutritious and high in protein, making them a good food source for pets
• Soft bodies:- Their soft bodies make them easier for insectivores to swallow
• Fast movement:- Their fast movement attracts insectivores like tarantulas, scorpions, and tree frogs

How to care for them :-

• Keep them in a well-ventilated room
• Wear gloves and a mask to reduce the risk of developing an allergy
• House adult males in a screen-top container because they can "fly"
• Keep them at a temperature between 85° and 90° F for fast growth

Nutritional value :-

• Protein and fat content
• Red runner roaches are high in protein and low in fat, with a protein to shell ratio of 37% to 6%
• They are similar to crickets in nutritional value
• Small nymphs are 76% crude protein and 14% crude fat, while medium nymphs are 53% crude protein and 27% crude fat

Vitamin content :-

• Red runner roaches are high in vitamin B12, which is good for keeping nerves and blood cells healthy.
• They also contain vitamin A and E, but the levels are relatively low.
• Other nutritional value.
• Red runner roaches are easy to digest.

They have a well-represented mineral content, but a low calcium:phosphorus ratio
